Personal data we collect
The information we collect depends on how you interact with Match On The Map.
Contacting us
When you use our contact form, we may collect your:
- first and last name;
- email address;
- message; and
- technical information necessary to submit the form and protect it against spam or abuse.
We use this information to read, manage and respond to your enquiry.
Our legal basis is our legitimate interest in communicating with visitors, readers and potential business partners and responding to enquiries. Where communication is necessary before entering into a contract, processing may also be necessary to take steps at your request before entering into that contract.
Our contact form is provided using WPForms and uses Google reCAPTCHA for spam and abuse prevention. We currently use WPForms Lite Connect, which remotely backs up form submissions. According to WPForms, these backups are encrypted before transmission and each backed-up entry is retained for up to one year.
Email newsletter
If you choose to join the Match On The Map newsletter, we collect your email address.
We use this information to send you the travel content and other email communications you have requested.
Our legal basis for sending these communications is your consent.
We use Kit (formerly ConvertKit) to manage our email list and send emails. New subscribers are currently required to confirm their subscription by email before becoming subscribed.
You can withdraw your consent at any time by using the unsubscribe link included in our emails or by contacting us.
Kit processes subscriber information on our behalf. Because Kit and some of its subprocessors operate outside the European Economic Area, personal data may be transferred internationally. Kit states that it uses mechanisms including the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework and European Commission Standard Contractual Clauses where applicable.
Website analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how visitors use Match On The Map, such as which pages are visited, general traffic patterns, approximate location, and information about browsers and devices. Google states that GA4 uses a first-party _ga cookie to distinguish users when analytics storage is enabled.
Google Analytics is currently implemented through MonsterInsights.
Where consent is required, our legal basis for storing or accessing non-essential analytics information on your device and processing the resulting information is your consent.
Google states that GA4 uses IP addresses during collection to derive location information and then discards them before the IP address is logged in an Analytics data centre.
You can find more information about the cookies and technologies used on Match On The Map in our Cookie Policy and manage your choices through our cookie consent tool.
Cookies and similar technologies
Match On The Map uses cookies and similar technologies for functions including operating the website, remembering choices and, where permitted, measuring website usage.
We use Complianz to provide cookie information and manage cookie preferences.
Non-essential cookies that require consent should not be activated until the appropriate consent has been provided.
You can accept or deny non-essential cookies and manage your preferences using our cookie banner and consent settings.
For detailed information about individual cookies, their purposes and duration, please see our Cookie Policy.

We also use Wordfence to help protect Match On The Map against malicious traffic, unauthorised access and other security threats.
Our legal basis for necessary security and technical processing is our legitimate interest in operating, maintaining and protecting Match On The Map and its users.
Embedded and third-party content
Some pages may contain content or functionality provided by third parties, such as Google Maps.
These services may process information about your device or interaction with their content and may use cookies or similar technologies.
